My friend islooking for a multipurpose digital camera. Specificallyheis interested in taking quality pictures of fishes in aquarium. What are the main camera's characteristics required for this purpose? What cameras (up to 500-600$) could you recommend?

Thanking in advance for your help.

Cant help you on the camera part, but one thing he will need to get is a detacable flash, wich he can hold above the water and not get any flashback from the glass. This has always been the best method for me.

Agree with that, and an external flash will add to that cost. You'll then need a cable that will attach from the camera's hotshoe to the flash which you will hold above the tank. Some cameras have a proprietary shoe so you'd have to avoid them (or spend $$$ on the proper cable).
