Looking at getting a 2X converter (Phoenix) for my Maxxum 7D. I know I will lose quality, but am willing to give it up for the distance. The specs I read say it "turns your 300mm into a 600mm".

I have a 75-300 lens. Will a tele-converter work at any point in between? That is, if I zoom in to 230mm, will the converter make it 460? Will 135 be 270? Or does it only double the zoom if it is all the way to 300?

Do I simply attach the converter to my camera, then attach the lens to the converter? Any special connectors needed?

1- Yes, the 2x converter simply doubles wahtever is in front of it
2- Yes, it fits in the camera, lens fits into the converter
3- With a 2x you loose 2 stops of light, so an F5.6 lens becomes an F11 lens (most cameras will quit trying to autofocus)
4- You do lose quality, with an unmatched, generic, non APO converter a lot of quality.
