I will be going on a business trip but I will be taking my camera. Can I carry it on or will they tackle me for it? What is the current procedure for taking a camera (DSLR and lenses). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You won't have a problem with it. Of course, you will have to run it through the X-Ray unit, along with everything besides the clothes on your back. Just remember to leave the weapons at home.

I fly quite frequently, and always bring my camera along. And, depending on where I'm going and what I'm planning on doing when I get there, I usually carry on a waterproof bag containing my camera, gps, cell phone, VHF radio, battery charger, batteries, and other assorted accessories. I like watching the TSA rep monitoring the scanner...they usually stop the conveyor belt when they get to my bag. Sometimes they call over a supervisor. I've only had it searched once...I guess it all depends on which airport you fly out of, and which crew is on duty. The people doing this job have had a lot of training, and can usually tell when something is in with your gear that isn't supposed to be there.

Have a nice trip.

I have a small Tamrac backpack that I take all the time...Everything I need, run it through the xray machine, no problems...Fits perfect under your seat...Keeps your stuff from getting smashed by the guy with the 80lb carry on when he jams it in the overhead...
