Default variation measurements for telephoto lenses

Folks at lensrentals decided since they have many copies of each lens to test them all for variations in IQ.

Seems lenses do vary quite a bit from one copy to the next.
Wonder what the DXO people will have to say since as far as I know they only perform their tests on one sample of each lens.
Photography a fading pastime

Yes, there's some normal variation from lens to lens, even within the same production run, but the presumption is always that the sample lens being tested is within the range of what is normal. I don't know about DxOMark, but I know that SLRGear and PhotoZone, both of which also publish objective test results for many lenses, retest lenses that show abnormal aberrations.
