I will be purchasing a digital camera in the price range of 200-250 dollars. The 3 year warranty is 60 bucks, but does not cover if I drop it or break it by my own fault.
for a panasonic camera, would it be worth it to buy the extended warranty? or will breaks usually happen within the 1st year? |

For $60 for $250 camera, my answer is no. for $1000 camera yes. Breaks usually happen when you are out of warranty any way. And if you find another good camera which you can afford easily then essentially you would have lost your warranty

If you get a good quality camera most likly the camera will not fail on you for no reason. Most of the time a camera break is from the user dropping it or sitting on it.

I wouldn't spend 40% (or more) of the price of the camera for a warranty. Those store offered warranties generall provide slow/poor/difficult to use service. On the other hand, they provide excellent margin and profit to the retailers who sell them (that $60 warranty earns the store that sells it over $50). In 3 three years the camera is likely to be worth very little anyway at the end of the warranty period. These warranties are universally bad deal for consumers, especially for such an inexpensive camera.

I wouldn't bother personally. If a camera has a manufacturing error that will cause it to die at somepoint that will almost certainly occur within the one year warranty you get as standard. If there is no such problm it will likely continue working until you do something that breaks it (such as dropping it), which the extended warranty wouldn't cover anyway.
