What is the best P&S for under $500??

I am looking at buying a new Digital Camera. Right now I have an older Fuji that isn't even 1 mp. I was seriously looking at the Oly C-4040 but after reading a lot of the posts I may want to buy a camera that is more of a point & shoot and I would like it to be a minimum of 3mp but prefer a 4 or 5mp. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

The Olympus C4040 is a great point and shoot camera. You can view my family pictures at

These pictures were all shot in the auto (point and shoot) mode. I also use the manual mode settings for other shots. The camera is very versatile and excellent camera for low light conditions.

Thanks for the reply. I used to use a Canon SLR many years ago but now I am mainly into family and kids sport pics and most of the stuff I was reading about the C-4040 was that it was like my old SLR and I really didn't want to mess with that. I can't open your website right now to see your pics but I will keep trying.

Gib,

Finally got the page to open. Those are very good pics and they get me back to strongly leaning towards the C-4040. Nice looking family. Have a Merry Christmas.
