My Nikon 70-300mm has a distance scale, but in searching the internet, I can't find a definition for it. What does this scale mean? Thanks.
EDIT: I should take this to the Nikon forum. Sorry about that. |

Its becoming a bit of a rarity nowadays with auto focus and all that. Never was that important anyway.Maybe in days of yore when there was no auto focus, split image, microprisms . What it could be used for is to set the hyperfocal distance on the scale and gain a bit on the near distance DOF

Do a Google image search for lens scale "depth of field" (leave double quotes) to find a bunch of examples. The scale is meant for full frame images so it overestimates with a smaller sensor.
It is not unique to Nikon. |
