I came across these Nikon Flash Color Filters (SJ-1):

They seem like they'd solve a problem I've been having where the light from the flash comes out a different color from the available light. Here's an example:

The light on the faces tends to be bluish, while the incandescent lighting in the back of the room tends to be very yellow. This changes depending on my white balance... If I white balance for the room, I get a blue cast from my flash. If I white balance for the flash, the backgrounds end up yellow.

Are these filters the way to go to fix this problem? It's such a pain to fix in photoshop. Or is there another way to go?

Thanks so much.

That kind of flash filters are one way of dealing with the color balance problem with multiple kinds of light sorces. Keep in mind that you will loose a bunch of light from your flash: if I am reading B&H's chart right, half your light with most of the filters, and 3/4 with a couple of them.

Another way to deal with it is to have a background where a color change doesn't matter, e.g., a brick wall that is a redder shade.

And then there is the painfull PhotoShop work.
