Default RAW Size

I have one more question about RAW format, I think its the last one anyway

Basically, why can't you select the resolution size in RAW like in other formats such as JPG and TIFF? Write times would be faster as you don't always need 2560x1920, eg: 1280x1024 would be great for 4x6 and 5x7 prints ...its just a question I have been pondering lately.

It's the full data point from your CCD, no more no less. If you have a smaller CCD with less resolution then its raw file will be less! 8)

I guess one can make a camera shift out only portion of the CCD data, but why? People who looks for raw usually want the best out of their camera and wouldn't want anything less. Beside writing a conversion program that only convert portion of the datapoint just make it all the more complex for its limited use... (ie to a few people) :?
