I think you got this right for what you're using. I assume you were seeing those purple colors on Picasa. I see something similar, that's why I stopped using Picasa to process RAW files.

This 2nd pic is a small jpeg embedded with the raw file as a thumbnail so you can see what the picture is of quickly. If you view the folder with Windows Explorer, you will probably see the second pic with a file name of Picxxx.thm or something like that. This thumbnail file can usually be deleted after conversion without any problem.
