Hi all.. I'm running into an odd problem and I'm really stumped.

I have an old 8x10 photograph that I've scanned in, and touched up in photoshop.

When I go to order the print from any online service I'm told I need to crop the image.

I never changed the size of the image in PS, and if I look at the properties it's still 8x10".

I just did a lot of reading on aspect ratios, but it seems that wouldn't apply to a print that I'm just essentially reprinting...

Help..

What is the size (in pixels) of the picture that you sent off to be printed? If the ratio of the short side to the long side is anything but 0.8 it will need cropping. If the ratio is 0.8, I'd suggest looking for a different printer.

They might be very fussy and reject an image that is 2001x2500 pixels (0.8004 ratio). It would be very easy to be that far off when scanning.

Well I fixed it up a little bit to get it exactaly 3200x4000. I was only off only a couple pixels so I cropped and resampled it.

When I upload this version I get the same result.

I just got an email back from Winkflash support stating the image should be 2400x3000. That works out to the same aspect ratio so what gives?

Think it's just winkflash or am I missing something here? hehehe

Thanks!

They want it exactly at 300ppi

8x10 @ 300ppi = 2400x3000

Sounds like they don't want anything at more than 300ppi, likely to avoid 0verloading their bandwidth or storage. I have the feeling that it is a bit silly to go past 300ppi unless you have some specific information about that particular printer.

I use a program called JPEGCrops to crop my photos, that may help?

I guess that makes sense.. The 300ppi is one field I didn't give any thought to.

So... I just cropped the image to their exact specs and it still says I need to crop... ARRRGH!!

Anyone else offer reasonable prices on 8x10's? I've been using Winkflash in the past because they have always come out nicely and only cost $1.99 each.

mpix FTW

I'll have to give them a shot, prices can't be beat and they offer a lot of services!

Tried my files there, no cropping needed. Must be some stupid fluke with winkflash's image processing software.

Thanks for all the help!
