i am having a hard time importing my jpeg pictures converted from raw into my online album. i did not have resizing when i did the conversion.

can i resize my jpeg files to a lower size with any loss of quality and detail. i do not see my self ordering prints greater than 8"x10" anyways.

The file size and image resolution (two different things) may be subject to the limitations imposed by the album provider you're using.

As a general rule, I try to use full resolution images for prints (other than cropping for the aspect ratio (ratio of width to height) for the desired print size.

But, I may not necessarily upload a full resolution to albums used for web viewing.

As for JPEG Quality, which can impact file size for a given resolution image (this is usually a Quality Slider in the image editor you're using when saving an image), the quality I will use will vary by the purpose of the image.

In most cases, I'll use around 90% quality for printing and lower for web viewing (some editors have a percentage scale for jpeg quality, and some may have a numeric scale from 1 to 10 or 1 to 12). Higher is better (but, that results in a larger file size for any given resolution).

What service are you using to host your images, and is this the same service that will be printing them for you when desired?

thanks for the info jimc. i use sony imagestation for image hosting and printing services as well. i never had this dilema before with my 3mp, p&s olympus c740. with only 3mp, there isnt any problem uploading pics at its best resolution. with the canon xti, it does take a while.

i guess for web viewing, pics uploaded will be resized. for printing purposes, ill upload the full resolution.
