Default Digital Camera Releases

I am wondering if there is a certain time of year when the Digital Camera companies seem to release their new models? Like a lot of companies bring out new stuff before Christmas or Summer, or...

The PNA show in March is the big time for announcements, http://www.steves-digicams.com/pma2003_index.html

Most camera companies do tend to release models all year long with no real pattern. I know from my experience with the Olympus C-7x0 series it's been March 2001, May 2002, Sept 2002, April 2003, Jul 2003.

For a true pattern (or lack thereof), you should look at the 2002 and 2001 timelines...there you will see cameras being released all year long, although there are some peaks. You can't judge it by a partial year.

NHL, I am wondering if those were the official release dates, or the dates when the public actually had a chance to buy them which might be later?

Mike, Thanks. I guess it means buy a camera when you like it, because you don't know when the next is coming, *lol*.

Those dates in the timeline are mostly announcement dates. If you look at 2003 for the Olympus 740 and 750, they were both announced March 2, at the PNA show I mentioned above...but the 740 came out in April, and the 750 in July.

As for when to buy, like computers there's no right time to buy...you either wait, hope, and miss picture opprotunities, or risk buying now but you at least have a camera.

Before I could afford my current camera I bought a $50 JamCam (not the best of digital cameras @640x480, but enough to tie me over). I bought my current camera a month before a new model was announced, I was a little upset...but then again I saved $200 on the deal; then again if I had waited for the unknown, I wouldn't have had a good digital camera to take on my vacation.

The C-750 came out already?! In the US? Where the hell have I been......oh yeah....working OT.

When did it become available? I stopped looking for a digicam because I wanted to see how the C-750 reviewed. I've been looking for a 4+MP digicam with greater than a 4x optical. I was already looking at pricey DSLR's 'cause I couldn't find anything that was not too slow.
