Anyone else having trouble logging in? I am a new member. I clicked the activation link. Using IE 6 and IE 7 (two different PCs on two different ISPs, same problem). Cookies are enabled.

When I try to log in, it accepts my username and password and goes to the forums home page. But my status shows as NOT logged in, and I cannot post. Sometimes, clearing the forum cookies causes the status to change to "logged in".... and sometimes it doesn't.

EDIT:

It seems to be related to how I got to the forum. If I use a bookmark to get to a forum I want to follow, I am shown as not logged in and cannot post. If I click the STEVES DIGICAMS logo and then select a forum from the menu, I am shown as logged in and CAN post. Very strange.

Paul

Welcome to the forums Paul.

You're probably using the wrong address to get to the forums. The URL changed early last year. If you use the old address at http://www.stevesforums.com , you will have issues like you're describing.

See the top post in the forums here:

A reminder - set bookmarks to forums.steves-digicams.com

A reminder:

Make sure you have your bookmarks for the forums set to http://forums.steves-digicams.com/forums versus the old address at stevesforums.com

Using the old address at stevesforums.com can cause login and cookie issues.
If you use any old bookmarks to login to the forums (and if you found us via a search engine, you may be getting to us that way), it creates problems like you're seeing.

Use http://forums.steves-digicams.com/forums instead.

You can also get to the correct address by clicking on the Discussion Forums menu choice from the main page at http://www.steves-digicams.com

Thanks, I think that might have been the problem. Yes, I think my initial entry point was via Google. From there I read through the Sanyo HD700 thread and eventually bookmarked it without ever backing out to the home page and drillingback in.

I have now correctly bookmarked it and all seems to be well. I assume the issue is that the old URL still works but a login refers you to the new URL, which doesn't match the login cookie. Or something like that.

Thanks again,

Paul

Right. It's caused some cookie issues along the way (trying to keep the old URL up and running, too). We plan to reevaluate this approach at some point (as it does cause some issues if you use the old address).
