That would be one clue, on the self for eight to twelve mos. Could start a thread inSteve's Canon forum and owner to give date of purchase, serial # & country of origin and Canon owners should be able to zero in on when the change-over occurred.

Of course it helps to be polite.

Now if Canon switched to a larger sensor, then they'd have a real competitor.
Yes it's good to imagine, but as long as people are buying cameras for megapixels. I don't think companies are will be interested in creating an affordable large sensor camera.

Well it seems that Panasonic (Super-Zooms) is definitely gaining ground on Canon (everyone else also). Now it appears (in the news) everyone is announcing new cameras but I haven't herd one word of Canon introducing a new S6/7/8/whatever, are they dropping the line (S series) are just going to let it bleed it's self out due to buyers that don't know any better?

I dont like the low quality of the S5's EVF. Too many pixels, low res, it looks like a honeycomg. It's just isnt clear enough.

I think you meannot enough pixels, 115K vs 230K on cameras such as the Kodak Z612/Z712/Z812 and others. None the less the picture quality leads many with better numbers.
