I have one quick question and then I'll get out of everyone's hair.

I wanted to buy another lens for my D40. A telephoto lens for sports and just general zoom. I was looking at these two lenses.

Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 55-200mm f 4.5-5.6 G IF Lens

and...

Sigma70-300mm DG AF Lens with Built-in Motor Drive f/4-5.6

Like I said sports shooting will be somewhat big for my child's soccer games.
The Sigma is slightly cheaper and has 100mm more focal length. I just do not know if the picture quality is as good as the Nikon lens =/

Also I do not know if the Sigma Lens has a motor drive in it. My D40 needs AFS and AFI mounts for the auto focus to work I believe.

What do you guys think?

Would it be a good idea to buy a 1.4x teleconverter for the Nikkor lens to get more zoom?

Like I said Quality is what I'm looking for.

Thanks

There is a version of the Sigma 70-300mm that has a built-in motor, and the APO version is better. See http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/len...mp;navigator=3

The Nikkor might be a slightly better lens, and it's available as a VR lens for less than the motorized APO Sigma, but a 1.4X TC will add an f-stop to Nikkor, which is already slower than the Sigma. That means longer shutter speeds, which is something you don't want for sports.

I'd skip the TC, so my choice would be between the cheaper 55-200 VR, and the motorized APO 70-300. The extra reach would be nice, but I might have to go with a monopod too.

I will go for the 200mm Nikon VR.

And invest quickly for the Sigma =)

Thank YOU!

Ah haha, Good call.

I'll worry about it later. It's late on the East Coast.

Thanks Again.
