Default American Photo mag

If you've subscribed to American Photo for a while, have you noticed a distinct change in it? If so, are you like me and considering cancelling your subscription?

American Photo used to cover really fine photographers, profiling them and their work. These days, the cover stories are increasingly fleshy--and I don't mean nude photography, I mean fleshy. This month, they gave huge space to lousy S&M photos and even huger space to Britney Spears. There was a lovely nod to several National Geographic photographers, but a nod is all it was. If they want flesh and sex, they should look to the masters of it. Mapplethorpe comes to mind.

I used to read this magazine from cover to cover, always taking away at least a little inspiration. The editors must have changed, and the new ones are unaware of the difference between sensational and sensationalism.

haven't read it. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes you like it, sometimes you dont.
