Hi People,

If someone built a serious camera (large chip) without a viewing screen, and subsequentlymuch smaller than anything available would you buy it?Is a screen a must have?Film cameras never had one.

Film cameras never let you change the ISO setting in the middle of a roll.

'Chimping' aside, digital cameras need screens.

It would be possible to build a digital camera without an LCD, and that was the way my first digicam was built (480x640, no zoom, HP). Since getting rid of the LCD would likely not do much to reduce either the price or the size, I doubt any manufacturer would do that now.

As far as viewing images goes the screen on my camera isn't worth much anyway (thou newer cameras with bigger better LCD's might be a different story ) however I would still need a away to change menu settings. And viewing the histogram is helpful.

I don't really need all the bells and whistles they put on many cameras today. Sure I can wait until I get my pictures on my computer to view them. But the unfortunate truth is, Removing those bells and whistle would probably not substantially reduce the priced so why not have them.
