Default 28-200mm equivalent lens for DSLR ?

I strongly consider buying a Minolta A1, Sony 828 or Nikon D100 as my first digicam (I own a Nikon 801). While the compact cams offer a 28-200mm lens, it seems that such a lens (17-105mm, considering the 1.6 multiplier) is unavailable for a DSLR like D100. I wonder what might be a practical work-around in terms of optical quality, AF-speed, price and weight. Any thoughts highly appreciated.

Bruno

P.S. I posted the same question under the "Nikon Lenses" forum as I was not sure where it would fit best ...

Hi Bruno,

Why not Canon 300D? You can choose Tamron 28-200mm or Canon 28-135 IS len for your body.

Bruwa, if you look close into all reveiws of those superzoom compact cameras, you may find soem critique at the lense.
28-200mm is a lot to ask for you pay not only a price but also quality.
Personaly I like to get a Sigma 28-200 compact lens, for lightweight and versatile for hollidays. However this lens can be quite below expected quality.

I think buying a Canon body if you already have a Nikon system is a bit waste of money.

You can read more about specific lenses (not all models are listed);
