Default why do pros use multi cameras?

how come when i go to a pro sport event i see pros on the field with 2 or 3 and some times 4 cameras around their necks and sitting next to them?
what is the point of so many cameras?

The pros may have cameras with different lenses, different film speeds, etc...it's a lot faster and easier to have a second camera to pick up at a sporting event, than to have to change a lens quickly (never mind changing to a different roll of film for a different speed).

Of course there's also the case of having a backup camera.

the long lens camera generally a 300-400 2.8 or longer $$$$

the long zoom camera 70-200 2.8 maybe with a extender

the wide zoom camera 16-35 2.8, 24-70 2.8 range

the B&W high speed camera (optional)

its like a golf club set.
