Default Petal type hood for 18-55mm lens "Q"

goodmorning everyone! i just wanna ask if its ok to use a petal type lens hood on my stock 18-55mm lens for XSi or should i use the ring type instead? any pros and cons for using the petal type? TIA

Normally, the petal hoods are intended for wide angle, internal focus lenses. Insofar as some folks don't ever use a hood at all, then I don't see why you couldn't use it. My only concern would be that if it rotated during focussing, it mighy not fully protect against flare. They do look cool though...Robert

@hawgwild: yeah it does look cool, i did get a chance to try one on my stock lens for the XSi but when it's on the 18mm range the petal somewhat casts a shadow on the corners of my viewfinder and when it AF kicks in it the hood rotates along with it which kinda sucks.
