Default Picture Noise

I am trying toget familiar with digital camers, can i ask a very basic question. What is the picture noise?

The non-technical explanation is that noise is comparable to ISO grains in ordinary film. Noise is like grains in the shot. This makes the shot unsharp and unsmooth to look at. If you want some easy understanding help on digicams and digital photographing, feel free to visit my website.
