Default ??? Micro Drive vs. CF w/ Canon Digital Rebel ???

Hey everyone. Just have a few questions I'm hoping I can get some answers or opinions for.

I'm considering getting a Micro Drive for my new Canon Digital Rebel. My questions are this:

1. Will I see a degredation in camera battery life using a Micro Drive vs. a CF? If so, about how much?

2. Will I see a degredation in the time it takes for images to be writen to the Micro Drive vs. CF? If so, about how much?

I appreciate any advice or info that can be provided. Thanks in advance for the help!

At least on the 10D I don't see any difference (and it depends on which speed CF you're talking about)... You can look at the write LED, to see how long it takes, but the camera's buffer will usually mask this until you fill up the buffer (albeit smaller on the Digital rebel!)

ie you can normally fill up almost two microdrives consecutively before the low-battery indicator kick in! Are we talking about JPEG or RAW?

Right now I'm just using a generic CF card that is 256MB. I usually take pics at the high quality large jpg setting. Only use RAW if I know I am going to be making a large print of something (at least that's what I did with my previous Canon G2).

I'm looking to get this Micro Drive from Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=18868

Know anything about this brand quality?

Thanks again for any help you can provide!

No I don't know anything about them. Theses new MagicStors along with Pretec are now making theses hardisks based CF cards all trying to beat IBM/Hitachi to the punch with larger than 1G Microdrives that I've been using for years.

The price is quite promising though:

May be I'll buy one too and let everyone know how it pans out. They seem to be slightly faster than the older 1G (@ 3.3~6.5/ 3.0~6.0MB/s) but slower than the new Hitachi 2/4G (@ 4.3 - 7.2MB/s) for sustained write!

If you check out this link:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...e.asp?cid=6007

You'll see a review of many CFs in many DSLRs. The tests include microdrives and the 300D. They have numbers for the 1G IBM microdrive, nothing on the magicstor. The IBM drive is about 150-200K slower than good CF cards. Can't say how fast your "Generic CF" card is, so I can't compare to that.
