My bag contains all my gear. I either hike with the D90 and 16-85 (70-300 if birding) on a neck strap and nothing else, or I pack my bag (a small one) for a multi-day excursion:

1-Nikon D90
1-16-85 VR
1-Rocket Blower
1-UV filter
1 extra EN EL3E battery
SD cards: 1-2G, 1-4G, 1-8G
Eye-piece cover
Lens cloth
Compact camera manual
Pad, pencil
The tripod has its own bag

My “Kit” is chosen to match my needs, and budget. I usually don’t go someplace for photography. I am there for the personal experience, to share with someone, to relax or for my education. I want to experience these first. If I come away with photos, that helps make the experience complete.

Someday I may travel specifically to take photos. Then my kit will expand.

I'm still limping along with my KM5D, accompanied by a Beercan, a Tamron 17-50/2.8, a Sigma 90/2.8 macro, and Minolta 50/1.7 and 135/2.8 lenses, along with multiple TCs, and extension tubes. I've got 3 batteries and 2 chargers, a stack of CF cards and a stack of filters. I've got a monopod and two tripods, one of which is broken.

What do you carry in your camera bag (if you have multi bags loaded what is in the open you use all the time)? People seemed very interested in what gear other use and we had some great posts.

I like to read about what people are using especially what kind of accessories you use/need and kinds and sizes of memory cards etc.

In a Tamrac Series 8 (5608) bag:

E620 DSLR with the vertical grip
12-60 f2.8-4 Zuiko
50-200 f2.8-3.5 Zuiko (I will sometimes substitute the 70-300 f4-5.6 Zuiko when appropriate)
EX25 tube to use with the 50-200 for closeups
FL50R flash with a Demb bounce attachment
Three 4GB and 1 2GB Sandisk Ultra II CF cards
Most important....a small bottle of Advil Liqui-gels....

I also have a 9-18 f4-5.6 Zuiko I will sometimes substitute for the 12-60 or, if I don't think a flash will be needed, I will take it along with the other two lenses and leave the flash and diffusor at home.

My camera bag (and I can't remember without looking, what kind it is) contains mostly stuff that I don't use very often. Spare batteries, cleaning cloths, teleconverter, cables, a couple spare CF cards, a large Zip-loc bag with dessicant capsules, and a lens or two I seldom use.

I see that this is a old thread, nevetheless an interesting one ... my gear's in my signature below ... these go into my Vanguard Oregon 54 Backpack along with Olympus 1030SW (for my kids photos in the pool). When I carry only 2 lenses + flash then I carry the smaller (and convenient) Vanguad Arlen 50.
But my IQ is far below my gear ... many photographers take better photos with a below $100 lens then me with all my gear put together
Current Gear: Canon 7D+BG-E7 Battery Grip & 60D with EF 24-105 f/4 L IS; EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II; EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L IS; EF 100 f2.8 L IS; EF 50 f/1.8 II; Canon Speedlite 430 EX II; Metz 58 AF-1; Canon RC-5 Wireless Remote Controller & RS-80N3 Remote Switch; Manfrotto 190CX PRO4 with Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Ball Head; Kenko Extension Tube Set; B+W UV & Polorizing filters
