Default Rule of thirds

As I'm a novice, I'm still learning the composition.

Here are some examples. I should have recomposed before fully pressing the shutter.

ISO100, 1/800, f/5.2

I didn't like the composition, so I cropped the photo like this.

Not really.... So, I followed the rule of thirds and cropped the photo again.

I'm not sure about the result, but it looks more dynamic. I guess I need to recompose before pressing the shutter. Still learning.

Ignore all rules, particularly design rules based on arbitrary geometry. Be aware that you are manipulating both the pattern of the surface (sometimes called Design), and the perceived space which the patterned surface creates the illusion of (sometimes called composition). Note that there are two kinds of scale, each of which affects how your image is perceived: the size of the image itself (a wallet photo is perceived differently than a poster which is perceived differently than a billboard), and the scale of the things depicted (a poster of a head of an ant climbing a tree will be perceived differently than a poster of a forest taken from an airplane).

Professionals compose for specific situations in which as much as possible is known about the conditions under which the object/image is to be viewed.

Make what you like. Try variations. Look at them. Try some more. Learn what you like.
