Default WQVGA/240FPS question

I have recently bought my first video camera and I have stumbled upon a setting which I cant figure out the purpose.

When choosing the WQVGA/240FPS setting it is very dark, I dont understand why it is dark. I am wondering if any of you can help me out

Thanks

Which video camera do you have?
