Default Try before you buy?

Is it customary to be able to walk into a camera shop and try a new lens before you purchase it on either my body or a demo? Or is it frowned upon?

I wouldn't waste much time (or money) in a camera store which didn't allow me to try it out. Just don't try walking out of the store with it, they might get a bit upset.

I have always tried the lens on a demo body or my camera. I to would not buy from a place that does not let you try it. But all the places I go generally have display model to try. I guess some shop do not want to open a new box for demo purpose as they can not sell it for new.

yes, if they didn't allow me to try it, that place would be out for me too. any respectable store will allow you to put the lens on your camera.

Yea, I went to a shop today and picked up a "nifty fifty". They actually offered up a demo for me to try without asking. Man, this lens is awesome. The image quality is amazing.

Yes it is, that is why I never folk over the extra money for the 50 f1.4, you are not gaining that much more over the plastic fantastic. I am a big prime lens guy. I have the 28, 50,85, and a 100 now. Just know that in lower lights, it does leach a bit when it looks for an AF lock. That is normal with this lens.
