I use Photoshop for day to day image processing, and Das Repro to calibrate images for printing.

About 9 months ago I down loaded the free trials of paint shop pro and tried it for a couple weeks then down load the free trial of elements. I stayed with elements. IF you want something more than the free editing tools offer try out a trial version for a month and see what works for you.

Another option is Photo Perfect from Arcadia software. A very good photo editing program for the price.

I mainly use iPhoto 09 and Aperture 3

Download the Aperture 3 trial, you will fall in love with it and the $199 will be worth it.

For me its mainly brightness adjustments, white balance, cropping and what ever else is needed to make the picture the best it can be.

They also have PSE and Premiere Elements for $105 - good if you run Windows because it's not available for the Mac.
I had version 2 of the full Photo Shop on an older desktop machine aka 2005 I believe (that I downloaded off a work CD) and never need to use it after playing with it for the first week. I can do what I need to do with Photo Shop elements 7.0..... I paid $79.95 for mine at Sams Club.

I have used Paint Shop Pro X-2 earlier, but now I use mostly Photoshop Elements, with a bit of tweaking in ACDSee Photo Manger 2009.

aperture 3 has a crashing problem with the free trail. It is great, but keeps having problem after using some brushes. I got it the day it came out. Sent apple multiple reports and couple of email. I will wait for some software updates to come out before investing in it. If it does not come out before the end of the trail, I go back to using aperture 2 until they fix 3.
