Default Much difference in close up with...

Sorry if this is a silly question.

Is it worthwhile to move up to a 30x zoom (HS10) from my Sony Cybershot 12x zoom? Will the 2.5x greater zoom really show that much of a closer image? Or will it be relatively not much of a difference to the eyes? Sounds silly but maybe I can't explain what I really mean! Thanks.

P.S.-can there-will there be even higher zooms like 40x, 50x etc.? Thanks again from this amateur.

If you are referencing this all to the same size camera sensor, then yes, the greater zoom will give you a larger image. There are trade-offs, though. You may have a smaller aperture, therefore need slower shutter speed, which means more camera shake, and so on.
