This is to thank you guys for your help and in particular to JimC who told me about the recall. The camera is now on its way to Sony (Freepost!) for repair free of charge.

Congrats. But, please don't give me all of the credit. Keep in mind that TCav also suggested you check to see if an extended warranty was available (as sensor defects were a common problem a while back, with a number of models being covered by extended warranties because of the issues). I only found the correct service bulletins and links about it for your model. ;-)

Please let us know how it works out for you (and make sure to post some photos from it if you get a chance).

Sure will as soon as Sony returns the camera, hopefully within a week or so.

Sony have returned my TSC-T3 fully repaired, free of charge. Superb service!

Here is the first shot taken this afternoon of one of the local churches.

I'm glad to hear it.

Sony has a pretty good reputation for repairing cameras with sensor defects. So, I'm not surprised (although because you're living in a different area than you purchased the camera from, that probably complicated the process more than you'd normally see).

Congrats on having a repaired camera at no charge.

Please make sure to visit often if you get a chance and share some more photos from it.
