Default Help! MOD file issue!

I got a new Canon fs10 camcorder(great camcorder!) and it records in MOD format. I looked up how to convert it and stuff. I tried everything even the rename trick, but when I play it in VLC or WMP, the video plays slow(not the normal 60fps), low quality and with a bunch of lines in it. Maybe I should record not in widescreen? Thanks so much!

Some info here, including a method of converting it into something friendlier
using ffmpeg.
