Default What is your favorite walk around Prime lens ?

I am curios to see what others are using as a "walk around lens". I am currently just using my Canon 50 F1.8 and love taking pics with it. It has yet to come off my 500D and I hardly use the kit lens anymore. However I do find my self in certain situations where I really can't zoom with my feet.

These prime lenses sure are addicting for me... I'm looking in picking up a Sigma 30 F1.4 next...maybe the Canon 35L but its a bit out of price range.. lol

Any other prime lens I should be looking into?

I like the ef 85mm 1.8 for a walk around prime. I would go with the ef 28mm 1.8, and a ef 100mm f2 also

I tend to think of "walk around" and "prime" as being mutually exclusive.
To me a walk around lens would be versatile like my Canon EF-S 18-135mm.

I have a 50mm f/1.8 for my 500D too. It is one of my favourite lenses,
although it has been sidelined to some extent by my new Canon
50mm f/2.5 compact macro which is even sharper and more accurate.

Before zooms became more affordable, prime lenses were what was the norm for slr's, so walk around prime are not mutually exclusive imho.

But the ef 50mm 1.4 is another good 50mm, faster to focus then the 2.5 and the 1.8. And it is sharp especially stopped down to 2.5 to 3.5

My favorite walk around prime is a 60mm macro.

I find the 50 mm either too long or too short for walk-around. If I want to walk-about light I take a 35 f2.8 macro and a 77 f1.8. Or if I'm in the mood I'll go "heavy" and take just a 200 f2.8, I tend to either really zoom in or else go "normal".

Only own (1) prime lens, a 50mm f1.8, so that must be my favorite walk around prime lens. When not using the 24-105mm f4L Canon lens on the camera.

I've only got one prime lens, the 50 f1.8 and it mostly stays in my bag. I haven't used it in months. It's an awkward length for me, so i rarely use it.

My Nikon 35mm F 1.8 is a nice walk around lens. Just plan on zooming with your feet. Corkpix mentioned a Canon 18-135mm lens, and I can see that that would be a very useful range.
