It's a stylish layout but too little space is devoted to the pictures. The thumbnails are tiny and even the zoomed in view is quite small.

I also think some descriptive text accompanying each picture would help - especially on the 'conceptual' shots.

Just some text describing the content of the picture. It will help people search and find your pictures but also on the conceptual shots where you say the concept is more important than the aesthetic it would be nice to know what you intended the concept to be.

as far as the conceptual stuff, i dont want to put a description on it. describing the image would skew the reactions and each persons individual analysis.

i have also thought about an artist statement but have no idea where to begin. i struggled with that in art school....

Hmmm.

Doesn't work all that well for me.

I like the overall background, colours, layout. All good.

I don't like the vertical thumbnails, particularly where there is a strip of 5 but only 3 pictures. I also think the centering leaves a lot of space around and looks clunky. I think a flow layout in multiple rows would work better, or at least a "scattered" layout as can be seen in various gallery generators.

However by far my biggest (or smallest really) problem with the site is that the pictures are tiny - even when enlarged. Even a 750x500 image is WAY too small for printing, and a copyright overlay would largely take care of web use if you are worried about piracy. The pictures are simply too small to see whether they are any good or not. They can't be more than a couple of hundred pixels on the largest edge. Much too small.

Also I presume the pictures themselves are for demo purposes only. You need better pictures on your real site.

Craig.

Craig.

the number of pics i have is just that....all i have as of now. i just got started and plan on experimenting w/ the layout. i can do rows with the gallery template, its just a matter of changing it and playing around to get what works.

as far as the pic size, i have no control over the thumbnails. the enlarged size works for me two-fold. it increases upload time to have them smaller. also, i am not really worried to much about piracy, but if someone does "steal" it....its so small they are limited to what they can do with it. that keeps me from having to go thru all the trouble of watermarking.

not sure what you mean by "real site".....

What is the purpose of the site?

The thumbnail size is fine. I think the enlarged pictures are much too small. Surely your upload times are secondary to the impact of the images in your showcase?

Also you may want to consider whether you really want to be using Flash as a format for the images. Most consider it a technology whose star is waning, and it's certainly easy enough to present images professionally using jQuery-based frameworks.
