Default Post check camera deal rumour

Some month ago at several forums people were advised to wait with buying a digital camera because of interesting developments on camera market before Christmas. Out of curiousity I looked around now and did not see any major landslides on the market.
Could it be;
1) I'm too busy playing with my camera and missed some major news.
2) Yes the major landslide on camera market happened. But the fact happened before the rumour spreaded; Canon Rebel 300D
3) Some cullprit tried to tackle the success of Canon 300D
4) The major breakthrough in camera land is delayed
5) The major breakthrough in camera land is off.
6) The source of this rumour was a lonely employer filled with gluh wine and happy to say anything to make a good impression on strangers.

You missed the story of the year?!?

The major landslide announcement?!?!?

It's the New Minox DD1 Diamond camera, decorated with sparkling diamonds (synthetic)....

You'd better hurry up and get your order in! You wouldn't want to get behind the line of users that may rush to sell their new Canon Digital Rebels, EOS-10D's, Nikon D100's, D1H's, etc., just to buy this great new technology innovation!

This new camera's 5-element multi-coated GENUINE GLASS lens guarantees pin-sharp definition and brilliance of image!

Read more about it here:

P.S. -- I don't see how you could have missed such a HUGE announcement. Steve covered on his breaking news page today!

JimC, I just wandered onto the forum after a rather full supper. Do you have any idea what sudden laughter can do to a person's digestion?

Mathilde, the prices have been dropping, but certainly not on the newly introduced cameras. My own Oly E-20N has dropped between 3 and 4 hundred dollars in the last month or so, no doubt due to the new E-1. However, like you, I haven't seen anything different from what always happens when manufacturers come out with new models.

I couldn't help it, it seemed to fit. I almost went with a photo from my 320x240 resolution camera phone (along with some text from it's original press release), but today's Minox story seemed to work.

Holy sh*t, you forgot to mention best; It has a whopping 3 mPixels. And look at the ergonomic design, this is a break through to assure always a perfect horizon angle in any situation.

I better forget about an extra lens and buy diamonds for my 10D to keep pace with the digital diamond camera ratrace. A glimmering 10D will be soo cool for back alley street life shots.

Actually it's using a 2MP sensor (they're just interpolating the image to 3MP). I'm sure it's using a high quality interpolation algorithm, too. Let's keep a look out for the side by side comparisons with 10D images, possibly coming to major review sites soon!

So, I even dare mention the Nikon D70? From past Nikon experience, it won't be on the shelves for another... 6 months or so.

And it wasn't exactly a surprise (i.e. they needed to compete with the 300D.) But it is something...

6 Month for a camera without diamonds?. I was already ready to buy accessory to glam-up a 10D . However I found this special seasonal Elvis Presly model. I'm still in doubt about the Minox but it is said that this camera has a make-up mirror at the back, already mentioned at some site as the smartest feature since years.

More serious I was indeed poking around if something was about to to happen on the dslr market, just out of curiousity.

I don't expect anything serious to happen until PMA, and that isn't for a few months. There are some very good reasons for this, most of which have been talked about recently on dpreview.com's forums.

They center around the fact that anouncing something before Christmas or just after it will really make the retailers very mad. It will kill sales for what already is on the shelves. Expect the camera to be on the shelves before/in Nov or you won't see it for a few months.

Nikon anouncing the D70 isn't going to do too much because it won't appear for a long time. But they probably pushed the boundries of what is "ok" as far as retailers are concerned. That D70 anouncement as so much hot air as to do very little except tell us most alreay knew. So why do it before Christmas? To hurt sales of the Digital Rebel... except anyone who thinks about this seriously probably doesn't want to wait the 6 months (or more) for the camera to actually appear on shelves.
