Default Why a new F-mount lens now??

In case some of you aren't aware today Sigma released a new 70-200 f/2.8 OS F-mount lens (comes with an adapter for APS-C cameras). And it costs $2500.00 USD MSRP. NUTS!! The new Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VRII Nano Crystal coated lens doesn't cost as much. What's the point? What is Sigma thinking?? Perhaps there's still enough film shooters out there still to warrant the R&D and production of this lens.

In general, the selling price for Sigma lenses is between 25% and 50% less than Sigma's MSRP. Don't take the $2,470 price tag too seriously.

Not sure what you mean about the full frame issue though, Nikon, Canon and Sony shooters have the option for full frame so doesn't need to be film. What's the adapter for APS-C, isn't it just that everything is the same but cropped?

As for prices, B&H have the Canon one on the site already at $1699 making it $200 cheaper than the original Canon version and $500 cheaper than the Nikon (assuming the same price). Time will tell how well this lens performs and if it can compete.

Full-frame issue? HUH?? I think you misunderstood or are reading more into my words than is there.

As for the cost of the new F-mount lens that was an introductory MSRP price. So yah doesn't mean much. Though, even as an intro MSRP price that is a tad high. Perhaps in 6 months we'll see a more realistic MSRP & street price. Which should cost less than either the newest Canon or Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8. Why else would some one be buying a 3rd-party lens?

Not that I'd ever buy one.
