Picasa isn't bad for fast previewing of images and simple corrections. I also like the way it can search any folders on your drives and include new images in the displayed albums.

Picasa is also cross platform (available for Mac, Linux and Windows operating systems).

Does it work like the Adobe catalogging process? That got installed along with PSE on my desktop machine, and every time I started the thing, I had to wait while the catalog updated. Needless to say, I disabled it.

You can specify how folders are watched and updated (scan once, scan always, etc.). Yes, it updates it's thumbnails when you start it (scanning the folders you've told it to scan for any updates). But, it's happening in the background so you can use it at the same time, and it updates very quickly anyway (adding many new photos/second on most PCs).

I downloaded a free trial of Lightroom and before I spend a bunch of time looking through it, I thought I'd ask a few questions for those who own it. Just by first glance, I can see where you can add keywords to photos and tag them with it, but it does not appear as simple as PSE. Is there a similar list where you can create a tag for each person and simply drag it over? And is editing as simple as it is with PSE for those that are not real experts?
