Default 10x or better zoom cameras

I have been looking to get a new camera (I have a Kodak 280 now) & had my mind made up to buy a Panasonic FZ-10 until I started to read some of the reviews about it. Well I deceided against it until Panasonic works the bugs out. I don't like the idea of lugging around a docking station on vacation so there goes the Kodak idea. The Minolta seems to be made a little cheap(I would drop it & knowing my luck, it would break.) so..........I am looking at Olympus. Well I went to pick up the photos at the lab this afternoon when I see on a "clearance" table an Olympus c-700 10x zoom for $240 new in the box never opened. I know because I broke the tape & checked the unit to see if it had been used. Never been opened so I ran home to check the price & reveiw via this forum. Is this a good price? Is this a good camera? Please let me know.
Thanks

At $240 I belive you would have a great purchase. I think you will find that the camera will produce very pics. I am assuming that it has the warranty card in the unopened box and will still carry the Olympus 1 year warranty.

Well, this is an older model camera, released in 2001, and has been discontinued for a long time. Steve reviewed it over 2 years ago.

It looks like the refurbished models on ebay are going for "buy it now" prices of around $249.95:

It uses the older Smartmedia for memory (which is limited to 128mb maximum size). However, since it's a 2MP camera, your file sizes will be smaller anyway.

So, if this one is actually new (versus factory refurbished), then $240.00 looks like a good deal.

When you got back to the store, you saw the box had been opened.
