Default New Idea

Hi

I'm doing an assignment & would like some user opinions about a innovation i have about digital cameras.

"What do u think about a voice-operated digital camera? You could say 'take' and it'll take picture."

Do U think it is a good idea?

Interesting...in theory. People using voice recognition programs have told me that trying to train the software ended up giving them vocal strain. Obviously, such a system would require either training of the cameras or training of the owners. The latter would have to be pretty darned careful about what they said around their cameras.

Hi vicountboo, don't want to disappoint you but probably you'll not patent your idea and get millions for it :? I think something like this already exist... if I udnerstand correctly info written about Nikon Coolpix 2200 and 3200 they are already shot when your command, look for them on Nikon site to see if I wasn't wrong.

I will not use voice recognition software on my computer and I a computer geek. Anything is possible given enough time and money.

I think it's a great entertainment idea, for amusing all the rest of us who 'take' by pushing a button. Even that's not original, because many, many sci-fi spoofs have people saying "Computer, take to me to Alpha Centauri" and the computer proceeds to do something completely different because it misheard the command.

There's a thread near here called "do you chimp?", where people are mercilessly pilloried for just looking at their LCD screens, let alone talking to them.

Have you considered designing instead the the car (automobile) that would respond to "left hand down a bit, right hand down, no, not that much, stop, stop!"
"<fx>CRASH"

Real visionaries would invent railways (railroads) to get round that, but it was done in England in the 1840s, so you couldn't patent it.

Vicountboo, I fear you've set some of us off...

Things that really should respond to voice commands--

Laundry: Wash yourself!
Kids: Go to bed!
Voice Mail Systems: Drop dead!

P.S. My son just informed me that I'm not talking about voice mail; rather, I'm talking about those routing systems that give you choices, none of which have anything to do with why you're calling.

any suggestions

Well, on the PC I tried a product called via-voice and dumped it as it missinterpred almost everything.
And my over priced cell has voice dialling that never works right.

So I don't put to much into the technology yet.

Also can't really see much use for it in cameras. Normally when taking pictures the camera is right in front of your face so you can frame images. If the camera is used remotely it is fired by a FAST remote trip device, either wired or wireless. It needs to be fast or you miss the shot, and voice technology tends to not be very fast or accurate.

I seem to remember someone make a sound activated party camera that sat on a little stand the took pictures on its own. It came and went without much fanfare as a flop.

To make a go of it you need to come up with a usfull application for the technology that people would want and use.

Hum, maybe a camera with a voice activated remote erase command so you could wipe images of yourself from someone elses camera if you notice them trying to take your pciture

I'd suggest that it be programed to respond to "cheese". It is likely to be used as a remote trigger - often for self portiat or group shots which include the photographer. You want a word that leaves the speaker with a smile.

A voice activated remote could be an advantage over IR remotes that require the camera's sensor to be pointed at the transmitter. Also a bit harder for the remote control to be lost at the bottom of the laundry basket.

I would prefer a wired remote with more funcitons than simply a shutter release, though you could deal with that by having it respond to faster/slower commands to control the shutter speed, open/close to control the f/stop, in/out for zoom, ...

Ha, then you would need the camera speaking back to you to tell you what it had set.

Also how do you handle noisy environments at say a cheese tasteing party, where everyone is yelling out more Cheese here...

Poor little CPU in the P&S cameras is already over taxed just trying to focus and set the exposure.
