Default What are you glad you know?

Photography encompasses so many different aspects that it can be overwhelming if you start thinking "what next?"

I do a bit of learning here and a bit of learning there, but the more I learn, the more it points out that I don't know what I don't know. (ie. How would I ever know to look up and explore idea X if I don't even know idea X (or person X for that matter) exists?

And then I think of all the great photogs that visit this site . . .

so . . .

What are you glad you know?
[Is there some aspect or genre of photography that you think gets overlooked? Could be a piece of equipment. A technique. An approach. A photographer that you like? . . . ]

I hope everyone has fun with this topic. Not sure if its been done before.

This is probably going to sound blasphemous on a photography forum, but one thing I am really glad I know, is that pictures are not important. Memories are important. People are important.
I guess I'm not really intended to be a photographer, as my instinct would be to pull someone out of the way of a subway train, by my camera strap if need be, rather than take his picture as he was about to be hit.

Hello, Simon! I must think that 'photo' is the result of Photoshop - or whatever - and although amusing, is one reason why I hold little store in manipulated images of this nature.

Much prefer your naturalistic pics of north Wales - got any of Llyn Tegid and area? Used to camp there some years ago and my then film camera wasn't exactly advanced.

That though its the photographer rather than the equipment that often determines the quality of the photograph, nonetheless part of the overall enjoyment of photography is reading about the new equipment arriving on the scene, considering the reviews, checking the state of your bank balance and eventually "upgrading " (but not too often....).
