Default Poor quality when printing outside (Store)

When I download photos from the CPU to a cd for later printing at .........., these pictures are not as clear as my printer. Have a canon G5, is it because of downloading where I loose pixels or what? Thank you for your replies
Regards
ray

No, it's because printers each respond to the color information differently, as well as how they perform on different types of paper. This is why color management is becoming such a hot issue.

People at dpreview have had extensive discussions on places to have prints done and everyone seems happy with the Fuji Frontier machines at Wal-Mart and Walgrens among others. The pictures should be crisp. If you are copying the original files from the camera to the computer to the CD full size they should be printing well.

Color management is a different animal and not significant if the colors are OK. Even if you are fastidious about color management it does no good unless you have the prints done someplace that will turn off their automatic enhancement.

My bad. For some reason, I was thinking he meant testing printers at stores not taking them to commercial printing places. DUH! Never mind
