Camera phones have been eating the P&S lunch for some time now so this just continues the trend. I'll be concerned when they replace the DSLR!

With a 41 MP sensor, it is moving in on medium format territory. Of course, that makes for tiny pixels.

Default 41 Megapixel?

When I see 41 megapixels and a camera lens about the size of a thimble, I wonder if it's much ado about nothing.

Maybe I just don't understand enough about the camera lens to even be involved in the discussion.

But I notice that my more expensive lenses are larger diameter glass than my less expensive lenses. Something is telling me, small lenses struggle to let enough light in to take a good photograph regardless of the number of megapixels.

Am I way off track?

The basic image size produced is 5 Megapixels, though there is a way to access the full size image. They use software to combine pixels, and the zoom is strictly digital, so the lens is much simpler. The more you zoom, the less pixel combining happens, and the more noisy the image gets.
