Default Downloading from camera

When you download from the camera to the computer do the pictures stay on the camera's memory disk?

Yes, until you physically delete them or reformat the memory card.

Is there anything to be gained from formatting the CF card? I don't actually transfer the pictures from the camera (Kodak DC4000), but I use a Sandisk CF reader. When I transfer pictures, I cut & paste from the card to a file on the computer. I view them via ACDSee 6.0. I have been doing this quite frequently the past month or so. I am building a new house and sort of "keeping a diary" of the changes made every couple of days. As far as I know, the cutting/pasting clears the card.

CF cards use FAT or FAT32 as the file system .. depends on what your camera supports. If you are cutting them off your card via the reader, it is not required to format the card in your camera again. You might want to periodically format it every now and then just in case the file system gets corrupt although I've not had this problem and I just formatted when I felt like it.

I always import with ACDSee which deletes the images from the card (if that option is choosen). I actually like to format my card every time I clear it as it resets the file names at that time (if that option is choosen).
