Even without the poll-taker pushing one point of view, the kind of polls where the responants are self-selected cannot be considered reflective of the general view. It is likely that only those with strong views will bother to answer so you only get data about the extremes. In addition the response rate is normally low: in this case there has been something like a dozen or so responses from several hundred users.

Self-selecting polls can provoke interesting discussions, but the numeric results never be taken seriously.

You're so completely right. It's like those commercials where they say, "Nine out of ten of those surveyed..." where the part about "those surveyed" is the key.

Most of those are even worse than self-selected respondants. A group of ten folks are asked a question, if it doesn't come out 9/10 the way you want, you do it again, and again, ... until you find a group that gives the result you want.
