Default What happened to OLED displays?

A year or so ago Steve preducted that we woulod see OLED displays on a lot of cameras.

I know of none currently shipping in the US.

What happened?

It's shipping on a least one Kodak camera, the Gameboy, a Nixvue with more products coming from Samsung and NEC: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/corp/disp...dFeb2003.jhtml

... main benefit is bright color display with minimum battery consumption!

The adoption rate is slow because Sharp and other major LCD producers have retaliated by lowering their prices to keep the OEMs buying their LCD panels vs OLED. OLED is still quite expensive and in this price-war environment of electronic goods, the cheaper LCD help their bottom line profits. Look at the price of a 15" desktop LCD monitor today versus just a year ago, the prices have really tumbled.

Hopefully the cellphone/camera market will help speed along the use of the higher quality OLED displays.
