Default flat panel vs. CRT for photo editing

The new flat panel displays are tempting, but based on photos displayed on my laptop, I'm not sure a flat panel can be as accurate for digital photography work as my 19-inch CRT. I work primarily with Adobe Photoshop Elements. Even though I've run the Adobe Gamma display calibrator on the laptop, colors just aren't as true as they should be. Any experience/testing of flat panels for serious photo editing?
