Default 10x or higher optical zoom cameras

why do the various 10x zoom digicams have low mp? are there any 10x or higher digicams coming out with 5 mp or higher ccd's?

I can only speculate: the lenses on the current low price 10x cams is small, since they have smaller sensors then the upper end consumer cams. Reducing 5mp to this size would jsut make noise worse.... enlargine the lens would increase camera cost...... neither thing I believe a manufacturer wants to do. However, I would expect 5MP long-zooms to enter the market within this year.
