Which camera should I get and why?

i'm a beginner, wants full manual control, image quality is most important and 10x zoom might be fun.

Code:

a80+256  = 3830
s50+256  = 4306
c-765+256 = 4654
s50+1gb  = 4773
s1+256    = 4929
s7000+256 cf = 5389
s7000+256 xd = 5753

Swedish prices. I suppose s50 with 1GB microdrive is better choice than a80. C-765 seems to be better than the s1 if you only look at lcd, mp, speed and so on, the objective MIGHT be better aswell. I've compared images of the c-750 and a80 and I think the c-750 has a little more detail, however on someones hair you could see each hair straw on the a80 but it was just a bunch of brown on the c-750. xd-cards are expensive so I can get the s1 for almost the same price, which got image stabilizer, better movie mode, movable lcd and so on... to bad it lacks the af illuminator of the s50 (dunno about the c-765). s7000 seems to be much camera for the price but I don't like the test images.

So, where do I go? :)

True, i've "touched" the S1 IS and really liked it, nice grip, big evf (great for glasses), convenient controls and so on.

The only thing which worries me is if the c-765 will take sharper images since c-750 images look sharper than s1 is ones if you look at them on dcresource, but sure the weather was different. But i still think the olympus got better glasses... It might also have faster af but i don't know for sure.

So this has started me to think about saying "screw them all" and get the a80 and a better camera later on... but it would be fun playing around with the s1 and it's 10x zoom and movie mode, but I'm always got a huge amount of anxiety and it's true for the camera buy aswell so I can't decide.. So here I am with no camera at all after 4 months of review reading, and it suck :(

Then go for the S1 and the zoom. IMO, it's quite difficult to buy a bad camera these days - if you stick to the well known brands like Nikon, Canon, Oly, and some more.

Zoom is a good thing, but wide-angle is much more useful for common use. An example. Many of your shots will be in low light, that's just the way it is. The 10x zoom will not be useful indoor in i.e. an apartment or a house. The use is very limited, while a wide angle lens will allow you to shoot much more, because of the lower shutter speed available. But outdoor...well it's nice to have a zoom. My advice is to cut down a little on the zoom and get more wideangle if possible.

For common use that is...

held og lykke

"because of the lower shutter speed available", how's that? The canon is said to have 2.8-3.1 in that lightning value, isn't that good enough?

Another camera I considered earlier was the fuji s7000, very fast and nice in all ways except the noise all reviewers talk about. It's only 6x zoom but starts of at 35mm to 210. Except the mentioned noise it looks like much camera for the money (c-765 costs 3750skr, s1 is 4400skr and the s7000 4850skr).

Well, the S1 has an image stabilizer - that will help you!

As I said - you have to make the choice yourself. I can't help you on that. The S1 looks good though!

Went with the c-765, 385euro + 99 euro for the 256mb xd-card = 484 euro or 4391 sek.

Also a good choice. Congrats!

We don't know about that yet thought ;/, to bad if it sucks. More noise? crappy af? lens doesn't let in as much light at full tele, not as good video, no zoom while "filming"? Time will tell... I hope they send it soon enough.

Hello aliquis, another camera you may want to check out is the Panasonic DMC-FZ10. It has 12X zoom and I.S. Price is around $500.00 U.S.
