Default I found a great deal on a close out digicam at Office Depot

Please note: I'm not advertising for Office Depot. I'm just passing on information about the deal they are running as a way of returning the favor for the information I have gained on this site.

The Office Depot stores (NOT online) are clearing out their Nikon Coolpix 2100 Gift Sets.

Each Gift Set includes:
- Nikon Coolpix 2100 digital camera
- fitted Nikon case
- wrist strap
- neck strap
- one non-rechargeable lithium battery
- two rechargeable high current NIMH batteries
- battery quick charger
- 16MB compact flash card
- 64MB compact flash card
- cable for connecting camera to video input on TV or VCR
- cable for connecting camera to USB port on computer
- reference book on how to take good pictures with digital photography
- camera manual (on paper, not on disk)
- quick start guide
- Nikon View 6 software
- "Watch Me First" -- a self running video CD that introduces the camera

Until recently, Office Depot was selling this gift set for $249. They are now clearing them out for $124.03 while supplies last.

I have been looking long and hard for a good starter digital camera for my kids. I haven't found anything else even close to the value of this deal. I bought three gift sets -- one for each kid and one as a Mothers Day present for my mother-in-law. All three sets were brand new in factory sealed boxes.

Likely a good camera for the folks who ask the "What Camera Should I Buy?" question. Cheap enough that even if the questioner is thinking in terms of an SLR, they wouldn't regret having something to throw into the tool box on the tractor. Certianly good enough for the web and 4x6" happy-snaps.

A good step up from the BarbieCam that I tend to recomend to those folks, only partly tounge-in-cheak. Can learn a great deal about digital photography with any digicam.
