I can see why some would have a problem with them, actually I can't. Sorry.

I didn't even notice they were meant to move. I'm using Opera here and they're stationary. I thought they should have moved when I saw the rolleyes one. It's identical to one that has been moving on many a forum for years...

Odd, all other gifs work with Opera.

edit - I've just checked my preferences and everything is as it should be. Must be a bug with the forums software.

P.S. What, no "indifferent" or "confused" smillie? :D

To some extent, it is going toofar. But I have not seen a piece of flash that I actually want. Sure, they might add some value to the web but they rarely add any benefit or content that I care about.

It's a great way to stop flash ads without removing them completely (i.e. they still get thecredit for the ad while not annoying me.)

Personally, I haven't missed the flash at all.

I find ZoneAlarm pro works for this

Under Privacy->Ad Blocking->Custom->"Ads to block"-> click on Animations.
I also have block pop up/under and Banner/SkyScraper clicked and don't see many ads at all :-)
Quite possibly the Free version of ZoneAlarm will also allow this control.

I can't complete a thought with all that busy wiggling going on at the left of the screen. Maybe it's okay for people who aren't touch typists, but this is a horror show for people like me. Anyone else about to go bonkers with it?

And here I thought I was adding to the board's entertainment factor :D

If this computer stuff gets too serious - turn it off - go outside (remember outside?) - and take some pictures

Works for me! I kinda like the little critters. They do make my cursor stutter a little bit but I can put up with that.:-):-)

Hey, Steve. Got a picture of yourself, smiling?

Alan T May 6, 2004 11:15 AM

Yes, Barb, I'm with you, and more. I can't understand why old-fashioned hand-typed "<Grin>", "<Smile>", or the plain English "only joking"won't do. This was what you used on bulletin boards less than 5 years ago. All this cyber-garbage is clogging the world's communications unnecessarily. Why can't people concentrate on content rather than presentation? This is true also of photos and other works of art. The good ones don't need adornment like fancy frames, etc.

I may have noticed a bug with the emoticons.

I think some are confused. :-)

The animations work now though.

An awful lot of whining going on for a service that doesn't cost you a dime. Get over it.

Effen May 6, 2004 4:13 PM

Perhaps for a short time, there could be a 'Forum Help'forum created. People could go there to seek help with issue on the forum, ask for changes, and offer suggestions (or just plain whine). It would help clear this issues out the General Forum.
