Default Nikon Coolpix 5000 focusing problem

I bought this camera specifically for landscape photography. I take photos for a local wildlife trust, to produce front page leaflets. I have taken upto 300 photos to date i have yet to have a photograph where both foreground and background is in focus. Any ideas please? I have tried all the methods i can think of but to no avail. Please help...

Go to manual mode or aperture priority mode so you can choose a minimum aperture for the situation.
and focus on sharp details ( edge of a tree, edge of an animal face ...)

( may be I misunderstand your question as well ...)

...Oh , I see now, don't use "5 area multi AF" , use spot AF.
